Open Doors Week for Education 2017

 ArcelorMittal Galați has opened this week its gates for the local educational system through the “Open Doors Week for Education” Program.

“This year we have decided to open the gates for the local technical high schools. We need to prepare our future so we need new workers, better trained, with a different profile, to be capable to work with the technologies of tomorrow”, said Bruno Ribo, Chief Executive Officer of ArcelorMittal Galați.


“Open Doors Week for Education 2017 is also a platform to recruit as many as possible of the new +100 apprentices which will join our team this autumn”, stated Mihaela Crăciun, Head of Human Resources ArcelorMittal Galați.

More than 300 pupils and their teachers, from technical high schools in Galați and Braila counties, are visiting key-equipments, are attending friendly short training sessions and are updated with the offer to join the Steel Plant, as future apprentices.



Educational Performance in Galati County, Rewarded by Damen Shipyards and ArcelorMittal

The most outstanding 77 pupils of Galati County received recognition on the part of the main economic actors of the local community: ArcelorMittal Galati and Damen Shipyards. The two companies awarded the winners of the national Olympic contests and the members of the national batches for the second time together, after a ninth
consecutive years tradition started by our unit. “We are constantly focusing on local education and health support projects, as part of our long term commitment
to our community. Our collaboration with Damen has strengthened further in the last year and we could also support together the modernization of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” High School. Damen’s cooperation is very important to us as our means are limited and 1+1 is more than 2!”, stated Bruno Ribo, the C.E.O. of ArcelorMittal


“Damen Shipyards Galati is thrilled to join forces again with ArcelorMittal Galati in support of the National Education Olympics, as well as in recognizing the superior achievements of our local students in this year’s competition. I would also like to express my personal thanks to Bruno for teaming up with me in taking part in this
commendable cause. Both of us are committed to improving the educational system for the kids of our county”, stated Christopher E. van der Stelt, Managing Director of Damen Shipyards Galati. “ The prizes ranged between 1,800 and 4,400 RON for every pupil with remarkable results in any objects of study, up to 8,000 Ron for a football team ranking 1st at national level, the total amount of financing the awards reaching almost 100,000 RON.

Damen Shipyards Galati and ArcelorMittal Galati work together to support the local education

 ArcelorMittal Galati and Damen Shipyards, the main pillars of the local economy, decided to unite their forces in order to support the local education. In June, both companies will award all pupils from Galati County who ranked the first three positions at the national school Olympic contests. This is the first time when the two companies cooperate for social responsibility projects. ArcelorMittal Galati awarded, for eight consecutive years, the performance in education and implemented a series of projects that support the children and the teachers from the local community.

„As we want to consolidate our position as responsible member of the local community, our engagement strategy, in Galati, focuses on education and health”, said Bruno Ribo, Chief Executive Officer of ArcelorMittal Galati. Now, we are happy to see that our business partners and friends from DAMEN joined us for the first project, of awarding the best pupils in the county. Thus, together we will encourage the excellence in education and, also, we will award the best results”.


Damen Shipyard Galati, together with several contractor companies, supported, in the past years, education projects for pupils coming from areas with fewer education opportunities, but also awarded academic performance. At the end of 2014, Damen Shipyards Galati received, from the Dutch-Romanian Business Network, the Award for Social Responsibility, for the group’s initiatives regarding the local community investments.

ArcelorMittal Galati launches a Scholarship Programme for students

ArcelorMittal Galati organizes a scholarship contest, dedicated to the third and fourth-year students from the Faculty of Mechanics at the University Dunarea de Jos. This is part of the Company’s strategy of involvement in the educational environment.

“We want to encourage excellence among the students from Galati, which is why we are glad to be able to develop new projects that support the social responsibility, focused on education and health. Our goal is to implement new programmes in the future as well, in order to encourage the specialized education in Galati, laying a base for creating experts that would work, afterwards, at the Plant”.
